I have been struggling with my body image for years now. And I am just getting over an eating disorder than went on from the time I was 13 to 22. :\ I am trying my best to find the path to "healthy eating." Do you have any advice on how to pursue that?... I am not going to act like it hasn't been tough on me, it has. I am 5"4 and weigh 104-107. Is that heavy for my height? I haven't weighed this much ever. It freaks me out. Help!

Hello, 5’4 and 104-107 lbs is very thin! Even slightly underweight (BMI = 18.0). But if you eat healthy and exercise, you’ll be fit too! I’m glad to know that you are over the worst and recovering. Healthy eating begins with having a reason and motivation. Maybe you can think of something you can improve with a healthy diet. For example, if having an eating disorder deprived your body of nutrients and your hair, nails, and skin may not be in it’s best shape, maybe you can think of ways to eat healthy to have glowy skin, shiny hair, and strong nails. At least for me, this motivates me to eat my fish, nuts, dark greens, citrus fruits while staying away from excess sugars. Look at healthy eating as a way to educate yourself, connect with other people, and to see what you’ve been missing out on! You’ll see that having a bowl of greek yogurt and berries for breakfast or an entree salad and soup won’t be so scary…

Also, please relax…actually be happy and enjoy your body! Weighing a little more than you used to when you were heavily struggling with your ED means that you’re getting better and on your way to the best life you’ve had yet!
