I've looked at the back of cereal boxes for their nutrition facts and what the ingredients are, and I noticed that most of these cereals, have corn flour, corn meal, corn starch, etc. For example, Kashi GoLEAN Original Cereal contains corn flour and corn meal and I heard corn flour/starch/meal,etc is high in carbohydrates, so I'm just wondering: Can corn anything cause you to gain more weight when you're on a diet? Is it bad for you even if you're not on a diet?

We live in a nation where corn is king. Corn (and soybean) is in everything…Corn is processed to nothing more than carbohydrates or high-fructose corn syrup. It’s like a medium to make whatever edible thing you want. When corn is processed into sugar, then yes it’s bad for you and can cause you to gain more weight. When it’s made into starch, it gives the product a thicker texture and serves you empty calories. Avoiding corn products as much as possible will stir you into the healthy direction and help you eat more nutritious and filling sources of carbohydrates. However, Kashi GoLEAN Original has a good amount of protein and is pretty filling. Instead of using cereal…as well…cereal & milk, another idea is to just use it as topping for oatmeal instead of sugary, fatty granola.
