Got some cauliflower at my local Farmer’s Market today! There were all types of colors. Which ones have you tried?

Great alternative to granola!

Granola usually has a lot of sugar and is not very filling. I prefer nuts which have more protein and healthy fats than granola (which is usually just toasted oats, honey, and dried fruit).

How to Pick Snacks:

  • Select something that has as natural ingredients.
  • There should not be too many ingredients (no more than 10!)
  • Has healthy fats and protein to keep you satisfied.

For example: Mrs.May’s is made of cashew, cranberry, raspberry, sesame seeds, natural flavor, pomegranate powder, rice malt, evaporated cane juice, and sea salt. It contains monosaturated fats, 5 g of fiber, and 4 g of protein per serving.

Wash your fruits and veggies!

Even if organic, you should soak and wash your fruits and veggies very well. This is how the water looked like after soaking Organic Driscoll strawberries! Gross!!

Favorite Seasonings

Prepared sauces add extra calories, artificial ingredients, and high fructose corn syrup. However, if you do not have time to prepare your own homemade toppings, try adding seasonings to make your dishes more savory. They add virtually no extra calories and are plenty flavorful! Stock up when the spices are on sale at your local grocery store!

Ideas:

  • Lemon Pepper Seasoning: Spread on baked salmon or halibut
  • BBQ Seasoning: Great on steamed vegetables
  • Curry Powder: Used for curry tofu
  • Citrus a’ apeel: grown on top of quinoa

Fruit cup from Mexican stand at Farmer’s market…so indulgent… I ate all of it!

My Pancake Breakfast is a little high in calories (~400) coming mostly from the Bisquik mix (120 calories for 1/4 cup). I thought I might try crepes instead to save some calories and time. These crepes are 50 calories each. Haha maybe I can save a whopping 20 calories…

Crepe Breakfast: berries, 2 crepes, marmalade, greek yogurt, fiber one cereal (~300 calories)

The Vegetables I got at Henry’s

  • Bell Peppers
  • Celery
  • Green Beans
  • Bok Choy
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Red Onion

So glad my friend took me today!

My Fruit corner of the apartment =)

I went to Henry’s and got a little carried away! This should last me 2-3 weeks. I eat about 3 servings of fruit a day. I use fruit as my snacks and do not eat snacks like bars or granola, etc.

  • Small Fuji Apples
  • Tangelos
  • Grapefruits (3 for 1$ WOWZA!)
  • Red Grapes
  • Butternut Squash
  • Avocado

Low Calorie Foods:

TIP: USE OLIVE OIL SPRAY. It coats your pan and baking pan just the right amount with virtually no calories.

  • Hunt’s Snack Pack: 5 calories for a jello cup (also $1 dollar at Vons haha)
  • Fage 0% NEW exotic fruit flavors! (mango with quanabana, blueberry/acai, gogi strawberry) (120 calories)
  • Smucker’s Sugar Free Orange Marmalade (with just 10 calories a tablespoon, you need to stop eating other jams and jellies)
  • Chocolate Chips for baking and for curbing sweet tooth (23 chips for 70 calories)
  • Spaghetti Squash: open and scoop out filling to use just like pasta with a fraction of the calories (1 cup, 42 calories, 2.2 grams fiber)
  • Cherry tomatoes
Shakira: definitely not my fashion icon, but she has a great body and is short like me! I’ve decided I’m going to work towards her body, but with boobs!
